A-Li is one of the pioneers in the disability rights movement in Taiwan. He is a self-claimed “the ugliest man in Taiwan” since he became a burn survivor at age 20. He has been a trailblazer in disability advocacy and disability policy making. His autobiography Ali-baba, the ugliest man in Taiwan will be reprinted with a new title Searching for the true self in the imprints of the scars: autobiography of A-Li Chen, the founder of Sunshine Social Welfare Foundation in March 2016.
Aven has worked in the field of disability and social welfare for close to twenty years. She joined Taiwan Access for All since 2010 and began focusing her work in advocating for accessibility. She hopes make contributions to advocating for disabled women’s issues in the future. Aven works full time in our Taipei office, and she is getting her bachelor’s degree in social work from Shih Chien University. If you ever run into her at MRT stations after work, watch out! You will find her speeding with her wheelchair as she makes her way to her night classes!
Sandie is an artist and a disability culture maker. She works for Taiwan Access for All while pursuing a Ph D degree in Disability Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Sandie writes articles on “Disability Culture and International News” on Taiwan Access for All Association’s blog. She is in charge of communication with partners overseas and research on disability related issues. She is also an assistant for Bodies of Work: Network of Disability Arts and Culture and was formally one of the steering committee members of Chicago Cultural Accessibility Consortium. She facilitates disability aesthetics classes and disability arts and culture events when she travels back to Taiwan!
Dumun Shiu, Coordinator
Dumun just joined Taiwan Access for All Association in 2015. This is her first time working with disability community, but she is very passionate about her work! She is in charge of providing assistive technology services and conducting accessibility audit in our Hualien office. She cannot wait to learn more from her job!
